Abstract

Adolescent women with epilepsy have special characteristics that make their treatment unique and individualized. At this age the principal primary epilepsy syndromes appear and need treatment for long periods time. The adverse reactions and interactions of the antiepileptic drugs would affect the reproductive cycles with secondary infertility, induce hormonal disequilibrium (polycystic ovary syndrome), osteoporosis, weight gain, esthetical changes, etc. These alterations have a considerable impact in the adolescence. Spite of these problems is possible to treat this kind of patients with the opportunity of a normal life.
