Abstract
Painful diabetic neuropathy is a frequent complication of diabetes mellitus, with an estimated prevalence between 40 - 50% in people with diabetic neuropathy. It is a leading cause of peripheral neuropathies with significant quality of life affectation. The physiopathological mechanisms of the painful component are unknown. The most frequent symptomatic treatments based on randomized controlled trials with their NNT or number necessary to treat, are exposed in this chapter.
