Abstract
The appearance of a scientific publication, recognized as the official organ of an medical specialist association, strengthens the professionalization cycle of a field of knowledge or one career, and reinforces its social image in the general community and specifically in the scientific community. These annotations for a history of Acta Neurológica Colombiana, covering the initial period establish the professional and educational conditions in which it was created and developed as the official publication of the Asociación Colombiana de Neurología. Additionally it shows, in parallel, how in the scientific community and the Country a system of science and technology was designed and implemented having among its first actions the adoption of a classification system for scientific journals that favored the numerical criteria of bibliometrics as an indicator of visibility.
