Resumen
A pesar de ser una entidad neurológica reconocida, que amerita tratamiento de urgencia, la definición del estado epiléptico aún carece de un concepto unificado para indicar el momento de inicio de tratamiento. Se han propuesto a lo largo del tiempo múltiples esquemas de clasificación para definir el tipo de tratamiento, etiología y pronóstico.
En este articulo se revisan las diferentes propuestas de definición y clasificación desde sus inicios hasta los conceptos actuales propuestos por la Liga Internacional contra la Epilepsia.
